Are children born from older parents (age 30 >) intellectually disadvantaged?
There is some evidence to suggest that your chance of genetic abnormalities increase as the mother gets older. One of the most commonly studied genetic disorders that seems to have an age relation is trisomy x or down’s syndrome The medical community has gotten away from using the terms low and high risk for chance of Down’s but there is quite a rise in Down’s births to mothers as they get older. For example for women in their early to mid 20’s the incidences are about 1 birth in 1250 for women 45 and older it’s approximately 1/25.
