Are chemically contaminated needles and hypodermics “chemical waste”?

Yes – If the aggregate liquid residues are such that they could run out and drip/run onto, e.g. incinerator staff. (e.g. 20 syringe bodies with 0.5 ml of phenol solution in each ). In this case additional precautions may be necessary. Contact the Safety Office for specific advice. NO – If not as above but they will still need to be disposed of as “sharps” – e.g. as a clinical waste.
