Are CD-R/RW media identical to prefabricated CDs?
The CDs you buy in a store are pressed from a mold. CD-Rs are burned with a laser. They often have a different appearance (green, gold, or blue instead of silver), also they are less tolerant of extreme temperatures and sunlight, and they are more susceptible to physical damage. While they are not physically identical, they operate on the same principles.
