For instance, our old traditionalists may have understood what the Catholic Encyclopedia always lays out so honestly: they had no motive for relying on the Word but adopted paganism into the church as it became dominated by the Roman Empire. That was the easy way to get lots of new “members” but of course they had to compromise. That is where they also got their “converted” paid priesthood. The whole article
