Of course not. However, all of the evidence should prove that those who do not use mediating candles are not just ignorant or fearful. That is why “musical worship teams” were anciently known as “the harem of the gods.” My point is that the stream of history gives us good reasons for not believing that a pleasant custom is worship — as in ancient fire worship. For instance, our old traditionalists may have understood what the Catholic Encyclopedia always lays out so honestly: they had no motive for relying on the Word but adopted paganism into the church as it became dominated by the Roman Empire.
