Are “bulbouts” (curb extensions at cross walks) consistent with bikes?
Bulbouts should not extend into bike lanes. The primary application of bulbouts in the draft Transportation Plan is in Slow Streets areas (the downtown) where the speed limit is 20 m.p.h. and bikes and cars share the same travel lanes. Bulbouts also reduce the pedestrian crossing distance, and enhance visibility of pedestrians.
