Awardees are not expected to support Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data collection. There is no national evaluation plan to collect BRFSS data and no infrastructure planned to support local BRFSS data collection, cleaning, weighting, or other processing. The national evaluation, per the legislative mandate for this initiative, will use existing BRFSS data that is posted on CDC’s Web site. The national evaluation may initiate focused data collection efforts to address the legislative mandate as needed. If applicable, BRFSS, Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBS), Youth Tobacco Survey, National Health Interview Survey, and other data sources may be used as part of local monitoring systems to assess rates of chronic disease risk factors as part of community health assessment planning for the Community Transformation Implementation Plan (CTIP).
