Are Brainstorming Sessions Becoming Exercises In Futility?
Brainstorming sessions are getting very popular and you can hear about one being conducted almost everyday. Normally it is called upon to help solve a problem, or on something that needs a better idea. Companies love it very much as it would seem like conducting a very democratic process to arrive at a consensus. The whole thing is made to look like an open and transparent process, where if there is a majority view that will be the course to take when the management has to solve a problem. Look at it closely and you will see the problems with brainstorming sessions. Often enough, no single person would like to undertake the responsibility to personally help solve a company’s problem. Usually, the problem is thrown to the floor and the majority view is taken as the best solution to take. This however might not be the best way to solve the problem.
