Are Blue Cross cards invalid?
published: Tuesday | February 4, 2003 THE EDITOR, Sir: I WOULD definitely like to know the meaning of the word valid as used by Blue Cross of Jamaica. I went to the doctor on Friday, January 31, 2003, and can you imagine my shock when I went to Bravo Pharmacy in Linstead to fill my prescription, I was told by the pharmacist that my card was blocked. According to my Blue Cross card, the card’s valid date was February 1, 2002 to January 31, 2003. The pharmacist informed me that other persons who came to fill prescriptions with Blue Cross cards with similar dates as mine, were also unable to fill their prescriptions as their cards were also blocked. This does not make any sense to me and I think Blue Cross owes its members an explanation as to why the use of the cards was blocked before the expiry date. As a matter of fact, I have not even received my new card as yet, which is another issue for another letter. My card still had over $10,000 in the prescription/drugs section. I am etc., SH
