Are bloodworms (red mosquito larvae) a dangerous food?
Some aquarists believe that live bloodworms are able to eat their way through the frog’s stomach or intestines. This might be possible if the stomach fluid is not acid enough to kill the bloodworms. Other aquarists believe that the hooks on bloodworms’ skin can damage the frogs internally. There is also the theory that too many bloodworms can cause an intestinal blockage. Personally, I avoid feeding bloodworms too often as I believe it will cause the frogs to swell up (I call them “balloon” frogs) or float.
