Are black Americans voting for Obama just because hes black? How is this not reverse discrimination?
Absolutely. It’s pretty clear to see. First, let’s keep in mind the baseline – roughly half of all the voters went for either candidate overall… if they hadn’t it wouldn’t have gone on so long, neh? Let’s start with Clinton. The biggest disparity she had was in Alabama, where 70% of the white people voted for her (link 1, by the way… I’m not making this stuff up). Many of the Southern states followed a similar pattern, but it was most pronouned there. Now we could say it’s purely a coincidence that many of the places known for racism from whites happen to have such a disproportionate statistic. But I think it would be wishful thinking to suggest that much less than 10% of that was due to racist white folk. Now let’s look on the other side. In North Carolina, 90% (!) of the black voters voted for Obama (link 2). If it was hard to imagine that there weren’t a portion of racist whites in Alabama, it’s absolutely inconceivable that there weren’t a bunch of racist blacks in North Caroli
