Are biosolids more harmful to the environment than animal manure?
Most animal manures and biosolids are applied to Virginia farmland using nutrient management plans to minimize nutrient loss to the environment. Again, they each have their advantages and disadvantages; the key is how they are managed. Typically, the application of animal manures is not subject to the same degree of regulatory oversight applied to biosolids, such as restrictive buffers for streams or wetlands.
