Are beauty pageants harmful?
I’ve had nothing but positive experiences from being involved in pageants. Even when I’ve lost, I’ve taken that negative experience of not being the winner, and used it to my advantage to take home the crown the next time around. It’s a competition, like a sport. The difference is that instead of putting a ball into a goal, you’re using your mind to answer questions, and your body to model your own personal style. To say that pageants are detrimental is to say that all models are harmful, and all sports are harmful. Neither of which are correct. You have to take the good with the bad, the bad side being parents that push their children too hard. But again, that happens in sports just as frequently as it does in pageantry. By removing the negative stereotype from pageants, you will improve your view on the world.
