Are bears commonly seen in Yellowstone?
Bears are not as commonly seen in Yellowstone as they were prior to the 1970s. Since that time, Park officials have successfully kept most bears away from humans in the Park by keeping human food away from them through bear-proofing trash cans and bins and enforcing strict food guidelines in campgrounds and in the backcountry. For those wishing to view bears in Yellowstone, the best times are early in the morning and late in the day. The best places, generally speaking, are the Lamar Valley in the NE corner of the Park and the Hayden Valley in the central, eastern portion of the Park.
