If you dont mind these issues, then you may be a suitable owner for a Beagle. I would not recommend these dogs for the first time owner, but they certainly make good pets for the right family. Beagles are scent hounds- and they are very nose orientated. These dogs have the second best sense of scent in the doggie kingdom- so they require good fencing to ensure that they dont follow their nose into all sorts of trouble! You will also have to ensure that your Beagle is never off leash- as once these dogs are onto a scent no amount of hollering will ever get them back! As scent hounds, Beagles were bred to be in a pack, so they get along very well with other dogs, and do much better if they have another dog for a companion. As scent hounds, these dogs are also very noisy! Beagles were bred to bay when on a chase- and they certainly make a lot of noise. It is not uncommon for a lonely Beagle to spend all day howling when left at home alone- so if you are going to leave your Beagle at home
