Are Basin Management Plans and Urban Water Management Plans the same thing?

No. BMPs are intended as overall management plans for the bigger basin-wide issues and analyze projects and programs for the entire area. In contrast, UWMPs are a State requirement for domestic purveyors supplying water to over 3,000 customers. UWMPs are required to include information on the reliability of the water supply sources, demand management, and drought contingency plans, among other things. They also compare water supplies vs. demand under current and future (20 year) conditions. Both the Soquel Creek Water District and the City of Watsonville recently updated their UWMPs in late 2005. An UWMP is not required for the Agency since the PVWMA cannot supply any potable water to customers.
