Are athletes salaries fair?
Luke: Athletes are paid what they should be paid. They are the attraction that people are willing to pay $40 a night to see. If owners are really losing money, maybe they should contemplate paying their athletes less. There is certainly injustice in the fact that doctors and teachers are making significantly less than athletes, but it’s a fact of life. Our society puts such a premium on entertainment that athletes are able to make the money they do. While education and health are important in this society, they are deemed less important than entertainment by the money thrown around in America. If you dislike the system, take your own personal stand and don’t pay the outrageous prices. Instead of going to ball games, give your money to schools and hospitals for personnel salaries. Josh: Trying to justify why Alex Rodriguez gets paid a quarter of a billion dollars for strenuous physical exercise while teachers are on the average getting paid just above a living wage is impossible.
