Are asylum seekers regarded as home students for funding purposes?

Asylum seekers are regarded as home students if they meet the eligibility requirements in the above Fees and Awards regulations. The eligibility requirements can be found in the Schedule of the Education (Fees and Awards) Regulations 1997 (SI 1997 No. 1972), found on the HMSO web-site, as amended (see above FAQ). There is also useful information in the DfES booklet ‘Financial Support for Higher Education Students in 2004/05 – a guide’ which can be found on its web site. A copy of the booklet can be obtained from the DfES information line (0800 731 9133). For more information on eligibility in individual cases, the DfES student support helpline should be contacted, 01325 392822.
