Are arranged marriages a part of Buddhist culture?
There isn’t really such a thing as “Buddhist culture”. Buddha’s teaching revolved around increasing ones awareness. There really isn’t any more to it than that. As these teachings spread throughout the world, local people mixed in their own religions, customs and beliefs with the practice of increasing ones awareness through the teachings of Buddha. Buddhism in Tibet adopted Tibetan culture, Buddhism in Japan adopted Japanese culture, and Buddhism in America adopts American culture. Several countries in which Buddhism is popular have traditionally had arranged marriages, but the practice or arranging marriages is becoming somewhat rare these days. The practice of arranged marriages does not really have anything to do with Buddhism.
