Are arranged marriages a good tradition or an outdated notion?
I can see why 81% of the voters feel that arranged marriages are outdated. It is because of the common misconceptions that people have. I bet most of those who voted have never had a direct experience of an arranged marriage. I do agree that there are occasions when those hitched are married just because their parents wanted them to or for whatever reason other than love. The point is that there are innumerable instances when arranged marriages have led to happy lives and these surely outweigh the former, especially in today’s world. Arranged marriages are a norm in the Indian subcontinent and Indians anywhere in the world, although I do not know if any other cultures also follow this. Being an Indian, I have seen nearly all my cousins and even my sister being married to partners who were chosen by their parents. Not one of them has had any problems whatsoever! Call me old-fashioned but I do believe that your parents know what is best for you, in most of the cases. And an arranged marr
