Are Armstrongs VFD booster systems compatible with LonWorks communication with a building management system (BMS)?
LonWorks is not a protocol that can run directly over a serial interface. You have to use a Serial to Lon adapter. This is similar to Ethernet wherein you just can’t load Ethernet protocols onto a serial interface, but you can buy serial to Ethernet adapters. That being said, an Armstrong VFD booster system controller with the serial communications port for connection to the BMS is compatible with LonWorks. However, the LonWorks installation and programming would have to be done by the BMS contractor. Also, a special LonWorks to Serial adapter would be required by the BMS contractor. Armstrong would supply the serial connection on the controller but not this adapter or the additional LonWorks programming.
