Are app stores stunting the growth of browser-based apps?
The proliferation of application storefronts and smartphone platforms over the past several years will make it more difficult for browser-based application ecosystems to take root and grow, argues IDC analyst Stephen Drake. Indeed, even in the desktop world, browser-based applications are not always the best course. Thus, the delivery of native mobile phone applications will continue to grow–from BlackBerry to iPhone–aided and abetted by the current app store mania.
