Are AP Courses Needed? Saturday February 23, 2008 I love the show Boston Legal, but I was quite disappointed with what I saw on the last episode. One of the cases the law firm was handling was that of a mother suing her daughter’s high school. Her daughter had committed suicide, supposedly as the result of being under intense pressure to succeed. The mother blamed the school for pushing the kids too hard to succeed, and one of the things the school did to push the kids was to offer AP (Advanced Placement) courses. At no point was the cognitive need of any students mentioned. Instead, the impression was that the only reason AP courses are offered was so that students would be able to compete for spots in the top colleges. Okay, I realize that Boston Legal is just a television show and a comedic one at that, but imagine how refreshing it would be to see a television show, any kind of television show, present a realist
