The game still work, but it will take away a lot of what makes this game incredible. You might experience missing textures and even slowdowns during gameplay. Anyway, you might be better off getting an Xbox 360 or PS3 to play this game on. They would probably be cheaper than putting together a gaming rig. But if you prefer playing on computers, you would probably just have to save up for an upgrade.
