Are “Anti psychotic” medications and “Hypnotic” medications both sedatives?
Most Anti-Psychotic drugs have a sedative effect but not all. Strength is a relative term and does not accurately apply to these types of meds. Some TYPES of drugs are better at treating some types of behavior in SOME individuals. This type of treatment is STILL somewhat experimental and a particular drug can have wildly varying effects on different people or on the same person over a period of time. So an explanation of their differences would be difficult since one drug can have several different effects depending on the individual. And the drugs effect can vary from individual to individual. Alcohol is a sedative in small amounts for many people but can be a depressant for others or in larger doses. It is also a muscle relaxant and can be a hypnotic or hallucinogen in large doses or if consumed in large quantities over a period of time.
