Are amoebas harmful or helpful to Animals and Plants?
Answer Hi Linda, That’s a great question. Sometimes, things can be both harmful and helpful. Amoebas are one such organism. Amoebas can be harmful to plants because: many amoebas they eat microscopic plants Amoebas can be harmful to humans because: many types of amoebas can carry diseases, and other types can or even feed on human tissue. Amoebas can get into the human body through contaminated food, contaminated water, and things like that. On the other hand, amoebas are helpful because they are part of the foodchain. Tiny animals called zooplankton eat amoebas, larger animals like fish eat the zooplankton, and we wind up eating some of these large animals. Amoebas also eat algae, which can help an lake or body of water that has too much algae in it.
