Are American Women Oppressed?
According to a highly publicized new study by the Institute for Womens Policy Research, American women are “still 100 years away from full equality.” Heidi Hartmann, the group’s president, says: At the rate things are changing, itll be 50 years before womens paychecks equal mens, and nearly a full century before women hold half the seats in Congress…wherever you go in America, women are shortchanged, starting with their paychecks…American women are paid 76 cents for every dollar men earn. The hard truth is that American women have come a long way in the last hundred years, but were still only about halfway to equality. Theres no good reason why our paychecks should be docked because were women, no good reason to deny us our fair share of political offices and corporate CEO slots.
