Are American Universities easier than Canadian universities?
Are American universities easier than Canadian ones, overall (in terms of getting a decent GPA, ie, above 3.0)? In Canada, it seems like universities do not vary much in difficulty, but some are harder than others (e.g., UofT is harder than Brock, for example). In the USA, however, it seems like many don’t have to put in as much work to get a GPA of at least a B (about 3.0). It seems like more have higher GPAs too (see www.gradeinflation.com). Furthermore, when I’m doing research for some of my classes, I usually end up on an American prof’s webpage. Sometimes I look at the sample exams posted on these websites, and the exams seem so easy compared to the UBC equivalent (e.g., I saw a USC general chemistry exam that gave a symbol and asked “name this element”. I learned a lot of the exam material in high school! )! It is true that you need 90% plus to get an A in many American schools, but the exam was so easy that it would be no problem getting above 90%. I go to UBC, and I read report
