Are American Indians and Alaskan Natives more likely to die from 2009 H1N1 than the general population?
A recent investigation found that American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN) are 4 times more likely to die from 2009 H1N1 than the general population. The study investigated the influenza-related deaths between April 15 and November 13, 2009 occurring in the 12 states which represent 50% of the AI/AN population in the United States. About 10% of deaths occurred among AI/AN, although they make up only about 3% of the population in the 12 states.
