Cocker Spaniels are single coated dogs. The Cocker coat is one of the most dense of all single coats, with more hairs psi then most any other breed. A double coat has a soft wooly or cottony undercoat, and a harsh or coarser, longer outercoat. Collies, Australian Shepherds and Samoyeds are some long coated/double coated breeds, German Shepherds, Siberian Huskies and Akitas are short coated/double coated breeds. Maltese, shih tzu, and Cockers are some that have long single coats. Boxers, Boston Terriers and Doberman Pinschers have short single coats.
