Are American blacks superior because of the tragedies of slavery?
The only way they can be “superior” is because they have had a better educatino etc. in America than they would get in most African countries. The people are the same, its just the opportunities on the whole in America are much better. You could therefore say are American whites superior because of the slave trade – well it helped generate wealth for them ehich meant they got a better education… We could just stretch this on and on. Basically the slave trade was evil. The fact that some black people in America might be better off today because of it – does not change the fact that it was totally wrong.
I think that adversity has made many work harder than average to achieve something, but it has been and still is an uphill struggle for most African Americans to achieve- many start off with such disadvantages (family breakups- the rate of single mothers raising children is much higher than the national average), educational opportunities, work opportunities. Those that do achieve are the shining lights for others to look up to, not just for the AFrican American Community, but for all communities.
