Are Alpacas friendly?

0

Alpacas are a very gentle, inquisitive animal, that, although their preference is to be with their own kind, alpacas easily become accustomed to a handler’s voice, and actions. Like people, they each have a unique personality, and some are friendlier towards humans than others. Alpacas do spit, but usually only at each other.

Alpacas are alert, intelligent, curious, and predictable. They communicate by softly humming, with neck posturing, ear and tail positioning. A relaxed Alpaca’s ears are straight and turned forward. An aggrevated or anxious Alpaca’s ears are straight back. Beware of this stance as they will “spit”. Normally, Alpacas are social animals that seek companionship.

An alpaca cannot hurt you because they only have bottom teeth in front, they do not have hooves or claws and they are very gentle animal. However, they do not usually like to be cuddled like a dog or cat might. Our alpacas will let us handle them because we work at having them trust us.
