Are allergies or asthma genetic?
Allergies and asthma are thought to be caused by a complex combination of environmental factors as well as some yet-to-be-identified genetic factors. Offspring of a person with asthma or allergic disease may have an increased risk to develop asthma or allergic disease; however, genetic testing is not available to determine whether or not the offspring of an affected individual well develop allergies or asthma.
