Are all ultraviolet rays damaging?
Generally, yes. There are three types of ultraviolet rays: UVA, UVB and UVC. UVA and UVB rays damage the skin, causing ageing, and may eventually lead to skin cancers. The suns UVC rays are absorbed by the atmosphere and so are not a problem during sun exposure. But they are present in artificial sources, such as arc welding, so protection is necessary in such situations.
