Are all types of radars affected by wind farms?
Radar turns up all over the place; from probing the ground to tracking satellites. Strictly speaking the answer is no. However, for all the radar systems that sense what is going on in and beyond the atmosphere and around our shores, then the answer is potentially yes. What can network operators do to minimise the impact of wind farms on their services? The major operators have made great strides in recent years; first in developing and promulgating a better understanding of how radars may be interfered with and secondly in identifying ways to mitigate the potential effects. More of the same please. What measures can wind farm developers take to reduce the impact of wind turbines? Developers can and do take steps to minimize the impact of turbine sites. These range from lowering the turbine tip heights at one extreme to buying in-fill radar. Collectively, under the banner of the BWEA, developers are able to sponsor longer term efforts to improve both radar and wind turbine technology.
