Are *all* (private) adoption agencies…?
I’m going to echo some of the other posters that things are actually quite different in Canada, from what I’ve gathered. Many so-called “adoption agencies” here are really just social service agencies working in a (true) non-profit capacity, meaning, they have no stake in whether a mother places a child for adoption or parents her child. They are contracted by the government, and therefore are meant strictly to provide social services, in whatever capacity necessary. A good example is Catholic Social Services. I don’t know how they work elsewhere, but here, the goal is three-fold: 1) Family Preservation. They are often contracted by the government to try to provide resources for struggling parents, and pregnant women. Many people assume that they are pro-life, but ultimately the time when they would get involved is well past the stage that would make the abortion debate relevant, so it really is not an issue.
