Are all paraprofessionals required to complete 60 units or an associate (or higher) degree to meet the NCLB requirements?
No. LAUSD policy, in accordance with the federal law, allows paraprofessionals hired on or before January 8, 2002, to meet the NCLB requirements in one of three ways: (1) successfully completing both the District Proficiency (or the Core Academic Skills Program) and the Instructional Assistance Test OR (2) completing 60 semester units OR (3) completing an associate (or higher) degree from a recognized college or university. In addition, all paraprofessionals must have a high school diploma or GED.
