Are all K-12 students required to participate in a visual and performing arts program that addresses the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards?
Yes. The New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS) for the Visual and Performing Arts were first adopted by the State Board of Education in 1996 and revised and readopted in 2004 and 2009. In order to meet these standards, all K-12 students must have regular sequential arts instruction in the four arts disciplines included in the standards of the following: dance, music, theater, and the visual arts.
