Are all Gaelic pitches the same for football, hurling and camogie?
Dan Shaw: Gaelic football and hurling share the same size pitch, which measures approximately 137 meters long by 82 meters wide, which is roughly 150 yards long by 90 yards wide. Obviously, this is a bit larger than the traditional soccer pitch or American football field. Due to this size difference, we often play on local soccer fields and, if field conditions allow it, we will extend the field. Often though, we will play on the normal size soccer pitch but lessen the size (number of players) of the teams so we can capture the exciting speed of the games. PB: When was Baltimore GAA started? DS: The Baltimore GAA was started in 2003 by Tadgh and Lucy Prendenville in a small gym in Patterson Park with just a few intrigued people showing up initially. Since then, the Baltimore GAA has grown to over 100 members fielding a men’s football team, women’s football team and a very social co-ed league, all with the focus of promoting these great Irish games and providing a social outlet.
