Are all classes held at the Nova Scotia Firefighters School in Waverley?
No, many fire departments have chosen to hold classes at their own stations or through different stations in the area. The Basic Fire Suppression Course and some specialty courses such as Vehicle Extrication, Hazardous Material Awareness and Operations, Pump Operations, Confined Space Entry, Officer and Safety Courses are held at various fire departments throughout the Province of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. These are booked through the School office in writing. This method is less costly to train the whole fire department than sending individuals to the School. Bookings are done well in advance due to the popularity of this method of providing the courses at home. Fire Control and certain courses such as Advanced Rescue and Confined Space Rescue shall be held at the School due to facilities that are required for the courses. The hosting fire department shall provide all of the equipment which is required on site.
