Are African-American women more receptive to screening than African-American men?
In general I think the women are more receptive simply because they are considered to be the stable force within a family. Although I think they probably seek care less frequently than white women do. I think that goes back to the lack of trust in the system itself. With men, whether they are African American, Caucasian, or other, they tend to put off seeing about their medical needs until they are forced to. Q: What can be done to make African Americans feel more comfortable about the advice they receive? A: In the way it’s delivered to them. We have to realize that we are dealing with different cultures.
