Are acids and bases electrolytes?
They can be. Sodium hydroxide is a basic electrolyte, hydrogen bromide is an acidic one. Ionic compounds generally form good electrolytes. This is part of why Gatorade can advertise an “electrolyte containing beverage”, all they need to do is add table salt (salt is the ionic compound NaCl). Sports drinks are, without sugar and flavoring, just water with a pinch of salt.
