Are Açai palm trees the same trees that Heart of Palm is harvested from?
Yes, Heart of Palm is cultivated from the açai tree. The process for cultivation is to cut down and destroy the palm tree in order to get to the Heart of Palm. Through our relationships in Brazil, we have helped develop a program to harvest açai twice per year from the same trees; the trees remain in tact and are not cut down. By doing this, we are helping to prevent deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest.
