I constantly see posts which promote the fact that gaining high grades in your A-levels makes you a more intelligent person then someone who gains lower grades in their A-levels, and thus people at universities which are very high in the league tables are more intelligent then their lower leagued university counterparts (as they have required higher A-levels to gain access). Personally, although the basic concept of this is correct, I do not believe this generalization. There are the obvious people who lack to brain capacity to achieve highly at A-level, but I think there are also people who have a massive potential to achieve high A-level grades, yet do not put the time and effort into revision and thus end up with lower grades. I know plenty of people who could have achieved AAA at A-level, yet failed to do so because of problems at home, illness or just general laziness and a lack of enthusiasm to put the effort into revision.
