Are 49cc Pocket Bikes (mini motorcycles) street legal?
It varies based on your state & local laws. I have recently moved from Atlanta Ga to Fort Worth TX, in GA they are street legal & you don’t have to get anything under 50cc registered. I had a Honda Ruckus that I rode to work to save on gas. According to Texas DPS, a mini bike is classed as a moped (see below). In all honesty, next time you see one of Houston’s finest riding around or at the gas station just ask. Definition of a moped – A motor driven cycle whose speed attainable in one mile is not more than 30 miles per hour and that is equipped with a motor that produces not more than two-brake horsepower. If an internal combustion engine is used, the piston displacement may not exceed 50 cubic centimeters and the power drive system may not require the operator to shift gears.
