Apples Power Tower: What Will it Look Like?
“A hot topic making its way throughout message boards and usenet newsgroups is, “what will Apple’s new line of professional towers look like?” After having seen my fair share of Mac enthusiast’s mock-ups, I have to say that I think the vast majority of these people have it all wrong. These designs range from space-heater look-alikes to Gum Drop iMac inspired bubbles. While I believe that the titanium / aluminum trend which Apple popularized with its titanium laptop is the appropriate design cue to build upon, many design mock-ups seem to inappropriately take cues from the company’s current lineup, utilizing such elements as the G4 tower’s 4-cornered handles. If you ask me, Apple’s upcoming redesigned tower will likely maintain its metallic product line, but will incorporate a mixture of beveled curves and streamlined corners, both of which are reminiscent of metallic themes found in 1930’s era product design, an industrial design trend which shows signs of making its way back into the
