First, try the game with the -msync and -mfill parameters. Then, disable the sound. If you have a Sound Blaster Pro, playing with a regular Sound Blaster driver may help. Select the shortcut to Age of Empires, press “Alt+Enter”, then choose “Shortcut”. The “target” line should look like (including quotation marks): “D:\Games\Age of Empires\empires.
