anyone hear about a 1mm puple ring around the iris?
It sounds like you have a corneal arcus. Sometimes it is a sign of high cholesterol. But, there is also a genetic tendency to develop that ring. There is nothing to worry about as long as you’ve had blood drawn to rule out a lipid disorder. Races with a lot of pigmentation in skin, hair, and eyes can sometimes have a blue ring between the cornea and iris because of the stark difference in color between the 2 structures. Here is a photo of someone with a prominent corneal arcus: http://dro.hs.columbia.edu/corarcus.htm (Sources: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Ophthalmology-Optometry-979/blue-ring-around-iris.htm and http://www.netwellness.org/question.cfm/47371.htm) Sources: Sources in the response.
