Any tips for setting up a flat ribbon winding operation?
The farther away your point of pay-off is from the linear traverse, the better. In the illustration below, angle M will increase as distance B decreases. As angle M gets bigger, there is a greater chance of your ribbon twisting or folding which would make for a sloppy take-up. By moving the linear traverse farther away from the pay-off you decrease angle M and minimize the risk of twisting the material. Another solution is a “moving spool” set up.
