Any proof that adding more bones will decrease render times?

I just completed my most complex model with about 3100 patches, with a chrome material that was applied to several parts (activates ray tracer). With no bone but the default black bone, the render took over 15 minutes at 640 x 480. I added two “do nothing” bones and assigned most of the CPs to the new bones and left a few still assigned to the black bone, then I re-rendered and the new render time dropped to 5 minutes! Just for the fun of it, I added a third bone and assigned the remaning CPs to it so NONE were assinged to the black bone and my new render time was 2 1/2 minutes! Woo hoo! Thanks to all who figured this speed-um-up stuff out, it works! Jeff C.
