The reason that Standard Definition broadcasts, both analog Premium Basic and digital service have ghosts and what is called pixelization is because these pictures must be up-converted by the television into the 480, 720 or 1080 picture format. When the TV does this, picture clarity is lost. We call the ghosts that are most prevalent next to numbers, letters and faces “ringing” because they are not the true ghosts that you can see on over-the-air TV off a rooftop antennae which are caused by signals reflecting off buildings. The only way to soften this effect is to go into the TV setup function and set the sharpness to zero. There is no way to eliminate this effect.
